What Is Perimeter Protection?

Types and Levels of Protection

Levels of Protection
Attached to the three product categories, there are three levels of protection:

  • Basic – boundary demarcation
  • Medium - protection
  • High – security to defend people

Types of Security
Two complimentary and parallel types of security also exist: passive and active. Passive security systems are designed to prevent entry, keeping intruders out of premises by e.g. fence, gate etc. They operate as a physical barrier where no human intervention is needed. Active systems require human intervention, such as intrusion alarm systems, detection systems etc.

Passive systems include:

  • Perimeter protection – posts, chain link, woven, welded mesh, railings, palisade and temporary fencing, including security fence toppings
  • Access protection – manual, power-operated (electrical / electro-mechanical / hydraulic), sliding, swing and bi-folding gates, turnstiles, boom barriers and barrier blockers

Active systems include:

  • Access control – perimeter and intrusion alarms, electric fencing and CCTV
